Dressing in Style

It has taken a while but I have finally got my dressing room!! For years my spare room was a dumping ground for all things that we didn't have a place for but with an ever growing vintage clothing collection something had to be done.

The first step was fitted wardrobes the length of the wall, we went with a company called Hammonds who were brilliant - a designer talked us through what we needed and drew up a plan - a few weeks later we had stylish new hanging space - modern with an Art Deco twist.

Then the fun part started - finding all the decorative pieces - I have always wanted a glamorous dressing table and found the perfect on, I have a vast collection of pictures and fashion plates that I have picked up over the years, hats and other accessories that are to pretty to hide in cupboards.

Looking forward to getting ready in my fabulous dressing room.

Fashion Galore - Isabella Blow Exhibtion

My hubby and I had an early start on Saturday as we headed to London to Somerset House to see the Isabella Blow exhibition - it was a collection of her clothes, shoes, and hats.

As a fashion stylist working for Vogue, Tatler and Sunday Times Style Magazine she discovered Alexander McQueen, Philip Treacy - extensive collections from these designers were on show along with many pairs of Manolo Blahniks - fashion heaven!! Many of the other people must have thought me slightly mad when I uncontrollably squealed numerous times on walking around!!

Mannequin after mannequin dressed in the most divine fashions, hats and shoes along side a few of her personal items - her note book with her contacts and ideas in pink ink - my hubby reminded me that when we first met I used to sign everything with pink ink - I'd forgotten that - note to self - buy pink ink!!

Suitable headwear had to be worn in honour of Issie!!

We headed to the gift shop and drooled over limited edition fashion books and treated myself to the book to go with the exhibition and the cutest little badges with cartoon images of Issie.

After a spot of lunch we made our way to Harvey Nicks - I haven't been there for ages and it used to be my old haunt - hubby and I used to sit and chat all afternoon in the 5th floor bar sipping champagne so we thought we had to visit again for old times sake.  One of the barmen that we knew from our first visit was still there and recognised us which was amazing with the amount of people that go through the door everyday!! It mad us feel quite special.

My favourite barman!!

Tired but inspired we left for home - ideas for NFW 2015 running around in my brain!!!!

Fabulous Times ahead - new year plans.

When a new year begins it is time to sit down and asses what I want to focus on for the coming months.

Launching the collection last year was amazing but because it took me  longer to find the right manufacture and get the dresses into production than I had scheduled I missed most of the "vintage season" so the main focus this year will be take the collection out on the road so more of you lovely vintage gals get a chance to try them on.

I am organising "Pop Up" shops, visiting Vintage Fairs and 1940's weekends - details will follow and I will keep you posted on Facebook so go over and like my page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fabulous-Miss-K/188326231178706 so you can keep up with all the news and don't miss out on an event near you.

Plans are under way for the Vintage Fashion show for Norwich Fashion Week - check out their web site for all the fashion news and events  http://norwichfashion.co.uk/.

This year the show will be more fabulous than ever with the best vintage fashion, nightwear and lingerie and a glamorous after party so you can dress to the nines and sip cocktails.

This year too I will be looking through my original pieces and sourcing other styles and designs to add to the collection. The idea is to build a capsule wardrobe that you a can mix and match for any occasion - plans are for a suit, 1930's style dress and a LBD - what would you like to see in the collection???

Lots of other ideas are running around in my head - Vintage Style Icon and etiquette workshops, updating the styling and personal shopping service, photo shoots and more - some will come to fruition some will stay just as ideas or wait for another time.

It is always exciting to make plans at the beginning of the year and see how they develop and then there are the opportunities that arise that take you by surprise and  in a completely different direction!!

So let the adventures begin and lets see what fabulous times 2014 has in store???

A Fabulous Year!!!

As the year draws to a close I always take a little look back at what has happened over the past months.

It's been quite a year - after dreaming of designing my own vintage collection it finally happened with the launch at The Old Hollywood Vintage Fashion Show during Norwich Fashion Week (www.norwichfashion.co.uk) - months of finding the right manufacture, sourcing fabric, trims and choosing packaging and then in October the on line shop went live - shop for you own dress at www.fabulousmissk.co.uk.

As a result of the collection I have been featured on a number of blogs and websites which is always great fun and rather strange to see me referred to as a fashion designer!!!!

One a personal front my lovely Hubby celebrated his 50th birthday so we had a rather fabulous time staying in Claridges and vintage shopping in Paris, we camped for the first time at Twinwoods or should I say "glamped".

This time of year is always tinged with sadness as it was around Christmas that my mum passed away. The collection is a tribute to her as a skilled dressmaker and terribly stylish lady - I will raise a glass this Christmas and hope that she loves the dress that is in her memory.

So here is a little look back in pictures of my fabulous year.

How to wear the collection

You know how it is you get a new dress and you want to try it on with lots of different items in your wardrobe - I know I do I can't wait to create outfits with other things I have in my wardrobe.

So I thought that I would share with you a recent photo shoot that shows you a few different ways to wear your Miss K dress - if you haven't got yours yet don't leave it too long as there are limited available - www.fabulousmissk.co.uk

Charlie styled with classic black pumps and a festive corsage (it is a hair piece by Rosie Alia Designs).
Just the perfect outfit for Christmas day.
You can see more of these lovely hair flowers at

I love hats and any excuse for me to wear one!! Just loved the green tone of this 40's trilby and the warmth of the faux fur collar.

The pop of red lipstick (courtesy of www.missyvintage.co.uk) makes this a stunning winter outfit.

Mixing colours together that you wouldn't usually think go is something I love to do - fabulous combo of red of the Charlie dress and purple beret (Lulu's Vintage) and grey gloves (Retreat Vintage).

More ideas of how to wear your Miss K dress in future posts and outfits too but in the meantime - how would you wear yours??

Students from CCN along side professional photographer Ryan Bleyswyck took photos from local shops and designers - two of the collection were shot around the Norwich area.

Last Sunday the dresses had a little outing to Horham - home of the 95th Bomb group. It was the last open day of the season and hubby was playing some music so I set up a few of the dresses.

And then on Monday I had a photo shoot with Joe Black Photography, Missy Vintage for hair and make up with the lovely Nakita Harden modelling the dresses.

I am waiting for the official photos to come along but in the meantime here are a few backstage ones that Missy Vintage took.

The idea was to get a few more ideas and looks of how to wear the collection, I have a few more ideas up my sleeve so watch this space for more.

By the way - which is your favourite and how would you style it?? Leave a comment and let me know.

The wait is over - The vintage inspired collection arrives!!!

After months of hard work, blood sweat and quite a few tears my vintage inspired collection arrived in the office this week.

This has been one  of my dreams for as long as I can remember and now it has become a reality somehow it hasn't actually sunk in yet.

The collection is dedicated to my late mother who was always very stylish, well groomed and talented seamstress - memories of pieces of fabric waiting to be turned into fabulous creations and her outfits will always stay in my mind.

Now the hard work starts - promoting and selling the dresses but they are limited to only 150, keeping them exclusive.

Hopefully this will be the first of more styles  and eventually a seasonal collection. It is the first step - scary but a very exciting beginning to becoming a fashion designer (that sounds fabulous but weird to write down???)

The Barbara dress (after my mother) in all three colourways.

Our first bit of press!!
