Afternoon Tea, Dancing and a starry hotel weekend

Last weekend we stayed at another fabulous hotel - this time it was for my brother in laws 50th birthday bash but I not going to say no for a chance to stay spend time drinking cocktails, dancing and living it up!!

This time it was in the heart of theatre land -The Savoy - it was the favourite of many a movie star form the golden age of Hollywood and the famous American Bar.

I love arriving at posh hotels - we drove up to the entrance and waiting to open the door is a smartly dressed doorman, taking you luggage and inviting you in to the grandeur of reception beyond the revolving doors.

And what a hotel it was - with a recent re-vamp costing quite a few millions it was amazing. Many of the features including the floor are original and totally restored.

After being shown to our room and the luggage magically appearing we settled in to the Art Deco themed surroundings - getting changed before heading down for a quick drink before our Afternoon Tea.

Vintage 40's dress Shazam Vintage. In the famous American Bar.

Champagne Afternoon Tea with style!!

After a long relax in the bath and a quick power nap we headed back to the Beaufort Bar this time for a cocktail before dinner - I loved this bar - black and gold very Deco interior but due to the fact that my camera is not great in low light we didn't get any great shots (note to self - get a better camera!!), It was the 125 year anniversary of the hotel so they had created some signature cocktails and a "pop up cocktail menu".

1930's dress Lulu Vintage, fascinator by me and 1930's tux also Lulu Vintage.

We actually bought this book from the shop along with a special edition cocktail shaker - so expect lots of drink photos over the festive season as we try some out!!

Dinner with Steve- the birthday boy and family and friends!

While we were enjoying our dinner we were treated to the sounds of the 30's from Alex Mendham and his orchestra - a truly amazing experience recreating the dance band era.

In between courses we took to the dance floor - I was moving so fast that I am a little blurry in this picture!! We even managed a Fred and Ginger tap routine??

What a weekend - I have been spoilt this year with fabulous hotels and events - will have to start saving and get some ideas for next year now!!

Summer inspiration and ideas.

The sun has finally come out to play, sitting at my desk I can see feel the heat through the window and see the flowers gently move in the breeze.

I would love to be out there soaking up some rays but needs must and I have to crack on with work - a photo shoot to plan, a fashion show to organise and press packs to send out to companies - not rest for the wicked or fabulous!!!

Summer makes me feel better and more alive - my thoughts turn to lazy day picnics, bright coloured vintage swimsuits and floral dresses, sitting in the sunshine with a glass of bubbly.

So just a quick post to share some of my favourite summer images and inspiration. Not much of a theme just pictures I love and make me feel good!!

Just a few of lovely summer images to brighten up you day - what are your favourite images that make you think of sunny days???

Style Icon - Bette Davis

Anyone that follows this blog will know that I love a good suit and have a very slight weakness for hats too!! So one of my style icons has to be Bette Davis who knows how to rock both!!

She had a long career in Hollywood earning 2 Oscars and was the first women to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Film Institute.

Bette was a feisty lady and often antagonised directors and fellow actors but she always looked so stylish and chic I can forgive her!!

One of her most iconic and to die for outfits is from Now Voyager and one of my favourites too.

Early in her career 1930's Hollywood.

Love this look from Dark Victory.

This colour combo is fabulous!!

You can't beat a good suit for making you feel you can take on the world so I will often don a sharp cut suit when I need a little confidence in the day!!

A great way to add vintage to your wardrobe is with a cute scarf or bag so come along and take a look at the fabulous accessories they have to co-ordinate with you look.

Many stunning vintage pieces from these guys have found there way into my wardrobe over the years so here are just a few of the fabulous items that I get to wear all the time.

A divine 1940's suit that has made many appearances at various vintage events around the country.

A stunning 1940's dress for a few weddings last year.

The most fabulous 1940's coat - every time I wear this someone wants to buy it off me!!
Not for sale!!

I love this blue and white stripe dress that is one of my summer staples.

Another of my summer favourites - a 50's print skirt and suede shoes.

Just so I can look glam evening having my morning tea - a 40's dressing gown.

Vintage doesn't have to worn just to a vintage inspired event - a smart 40's or 50's suit can be part of your work wear or a 50's dress can take you to a wedding or party, a cotton 70's number will look cute with sandals for summer - the list is endless so make sure if you are looking for something different for your wardrobe this year you take a visit to Prim and see what they have to tempt you.

Luxury Vintage Christmas Gifts

Last week I shared some ideas that wouldn't make you bank manager unhappy this week I thought I would give him a scare!!!  This is my fantasy list of vintage Christmas gifts - some are just expensive so saving up or maxing out the credit card would be a possibility and some are just pure indulgence and will have to wait until the lottery win but a gal can dream can't she!!!???

Originally made for Grace Kelly the classic bag from Hermes - so stylish and elegant but big enough for carrying around everyday essentials.

A set of Louis Vuitton Luggage or a steamer trunk like this one. Luxury travel as it used to be.

Paris to Venice on The Orient Express - the British Pullman is not cheap but affordable but it has always been my dream to travel overnight and wake up in a different country, with Deco luxury to boot!!

I love my vintage and wear it everyday, I have a vast collection that continues to grow but to have an original from one of the great designers such as Chanel, Dior or Schiaparelli would be the ultimate dream.

Vintage Champagne - anyone that knows me knows my love for fizz - to buy a vintage bottle and share with all my fabulous friends - what fun!!

Now what gal wouldn't want this for a present - a wardrobe full of shoes - enough said!!

Afternoon tea at the Ritz - not for everyday but a little be of "affordable" luxury to indulge in at least once in a lifetime!

Vintage brooch made by Cartier for Wallis Simpson - a piece that would be worth a fortune now but just a little vintage piece of jewellery in my stocking - pretty please!!

Cat slippers and eye mask from Charlotte Olympia - expensive at £395 but oh sooo cute!!

Come the country pile - this weekend?

I have always wanted someone to say that to me!! Just like in the 30's when friends with a stately a home invited everyone "down from London" for the weekend.

Days spent wandering around the gardens, watching the hunt or just generally lazing around drinking cocktails and listening to Jazz (the reality would probably be a drafty old pile that had a leaking roof and freezing but we are talking fantasy here!!)

Then dressing for dinner and sitting with more cocktails by an open fire - maybe one day you never know.

I am a city gal so a weekend in the country is about as much as I could bear but I love the thought of dressing up in tweeds so here is the look I would go for should I ever get invited???

And then for the evening something totally glamorous because dressing for cocktails and dinner should have a come back.

So if anyone does have a "country pile" that you would like to invite me too please feel free - I can bring glamour, style and alcohol!!!
